This area, situated in the western region of Mauritius called Black River, was named after Antoine de Chamarel, an ex-captain of the French army who, in the 18th century, bought land there to cultivate vanilla, coffee and pepper. Coffee is still cultivated there today. At Chamarel, you will find a small church, a community center and small houses, typical of the region.
Tourists visiting Chamarel wil first be attracted to the Seven Coloured Earth and the Chamarel Cascade.   Le Domaine d'Anse Jonchée

Nestled between the turquoise blue of Le Vieux Grand Port and the emerald green of a unique primary forest, Le Domaine d'Anse Jonchée is a heaven of peace and a calm retreat, away
from stressful cities and noisy places.

History: Le Domaine exists since 1988. Indeed part of the valley of Le Domaine d'Anse Jonchée used to be known as Le Domaine du Chasseur for about 20 years. In August 2006, Mr Boule acquired le
Domaine du chasseur and le Domaine d’Ylang-ylang with some of it surrounding land. In February 2007, the overall property became Le Domaine d'Anse Jonchée. This new name goes along with a
new management team, a new workforce and a new spirit. To complete our product offer and highlight our new positioning, we bought the Old Ylang-ylang Distillery in October 2007.

Our Will: We axed our activity in the eco-tourism field in which we aim to be a reference. To settle our positioning, we are proposing only eco-friendly activities, a “Simply Mauritius” experience in a
unique and breathtaking environment. Also, thank to our partnership with the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation, we are preserving our natural environment, conserving endemic fauna & flora of Mauritius Island & helping in monitoring & preserving an endemic falcon, the Kestrel.

It starts at Curepipe, by visiting the ‘Domaine des Aubinaux’, one of the last colonial houses found on the central plateau, built in 1872. This house used to be the residence of the owner of the field of Bois Cheri.
The road leading to the factory crosses the plantations of tea where one can see women gathering the precious tea leaves.
The guided tours of the factory will enable you to discover the thousand and one secrecies of tea: rooms for drying, with the technique of selection according to quality - 10 different qualities are produced - and finally the place where the tea is bagged. Several varieties of tea, from natural flavour and to vanilla, are exported towards South Africa, France and the United Kingdom.
